Welcome to Aloysius Church

Downtown Detroit

We are located at 1234 Washington Boulevard (between Grand River and State Street.)

Mission Statement

We, the spiritual family of St. Aloysius, honor and value the diversity of our community. Through our worship of God, we joyfully commit ourselves to imitate the Good Shepherd. We serve our brothers and sisters when we comfort the lost, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and welcome the stranger. Our service is rooted in our experience of God's love, which calls us to be the Good News of Jesus in the Downtown Detroit Community.

Our Pastor is:

Fr. Tod Laverty, O.F.M., Pastor

Mass is celebrated at 7:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday mass is at 4:00 p.m. and Sundays at 11:30 a.m.  (Please see the link to Worship for more information.)

We look forward to seeing you at St. Aloysius!

Message from the Pastor

Welcome to St. Aloysius Parish and thank you for checking out our web site. St. Aloysius services all of metro Detroit beginning in the Downtown area. We are located on Washington Boulevard between Grand River and State Street. As long time participants in the life of the center city we have a continuing relationship, rooted in our shared baptism, with the members of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Plymouth. Rounding out our complex network of relationships is our three-year-old clustering partnership with St. Patrick parish on Parsons in Midtown Detroit.

Served by the Franciscan Friars of St. John the Baptist Province, our church community is diverse community of people who draw their strength from celebrating the Eucharist every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Our faith community is committed to reaching out to people who have physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

The natural consequence of our faithful worship of God is the desire to celebrate our shared experience of God’s love. Seasonal events such as our neighborhood Block Party, Health Fair and other events engage the entire community, drawing people from the city and suburbs alike.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available weekly (see Worship Schedule) or at communal celebrations that are announced at various times throughout the year. Anointing of the Sick is celebrated quarterly, during the Sunday Eucharist, and by request when need arises.

Join us for any and all events that are part of the fabric of our faith life here at St. Aloysius.  Introduce yourself to me when you see me.  Let me know how I can be of service to you in your own personal journey of faith. You can be sure I will invite you to join us in our mission of Gospel Love.

Fr. Tod S. Laverty, OFM

As you know, Sr. Kathleen Gaynor suffered a stroke last July. She is recovering nicely in the Adrian Dominican's Life Care Center.

Please keep Sr. Kathleen in your prayers and thoughts as she makes small steps each day in her recovery. If you would like to send her a card, you can address it to her at the St. Aloysius office and we will be certain that she gets it. Or you can send it directly to her. Address those cards to:  Kathleen Gaynor, O.P., Dominican Life Center, 1277 E. Sienna Heights Dr., Adrian, MI  49221.
