We
have begun our appeal for our Christmas Wish List - 2008. Every year
we try to give our homeless guests a backpack filled with new
underwear, warm clothing, thermal socks, hand warmers and hygiene
kits. Although all sizes are needed, we especially need 1X and up
for our guests as they wear several layers for warmth. For more
information on what is needed, please click here.

At the Outreach Center, also called the
Canticle Cafe, we serve the
homeless, the working poor and the impoverished seniors in Downtown
Detroit. We serve between 200 to 500 guests throughout the day, five
days a week - We are closed Sundays and Wednesdays. Our hours
operation during week are 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Saturdays we
are open from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
We work with homeless people to address
the underlying problems of addiction, lack of self esteem, mental
health and traumatic history to help them regain their dignity and
to realize their value in our world. At the same time we address
their immediate needs for food, clothing and shelter.
We also work with seniors to assist them
in preserving and improving their quality of life. We do this
through the Senior Program, Pastoral Visitation and Health Ministry
programs.
Some of the services we provide include:
case
management
referrals for
substance abuse treatment, medical assistance, employment,
housing and shelters
rent and
utility assistance
grocery bags
(for people 50 and older, living in the 48226 zip code area)
oatmeal, sandwiches
and coffee
clothing and
hygiene kits
referrals for
State ID, birth certificates and school records
referrals for
furniture
blood
pressure screenings and health advocacy by the Parish Nurse
internet
training and access
We offer a safe
and caring environment where our guests can relax, enjoy coffee and
donuts and morning television. We have also started baking cinnamon
rolls in our kitchen for our guests.
There are many
opportunities to volunteer at the Outreach Center. If interested in
volunteering, please call Camilla Lunsford. If you would like to
come and see everything we do, feel free to stop by during our open
hours and we will be happy to take you on a tour.

donating food for our Senior food pantry, please click here to see

GROCERY BAG CONTENTS.docx
This summer, we are
finding our cupboards are close to empty. Our clothing shelves
are empty of men's pants in waist sizes 28 - 38 and we have no shoes
over a men's size 7.5.
We have not been able to give out
hygiene kits regularly because we've had no razors, toothpaste,
toothbrushes or deodorant.
Soft bread is always needed for
sandwiches to send with our guests as is bottled water during these
hot months.
